I recharge after 1 hr. Use just out of habit. It has never died on us after a year of use.
This is a very capable portable nail drill to toss in your mobile kit. It exhibits quality design, with a solid feel from the all metal body. Despite the metal composition, the nail drill still manages to maintain light weight. The nail drill touts 5 speeds, with a range up to 30,000rpm (the five speed levels: 5k, 10k, 20k, 25k and 30k). So, it is definitely not lacking in the speed/power department. It also features forward and reverse rotation options.
Operation is simple and easy. Pressing the power button will put the device into standby mode, with a green light illuminating at the bottom (this green light indicates good battery power levels, if the light is red then the battery needs to be recharged). Another press of the power button will activate the drill, with the default setting being the lowest speed, 5000rpm, and R (R=reverse/counterclockwise rotation). To alter the rotation direction, merely double press the power button. The drill will pause, and then resume in the alternate direction. The manual does note to not engage changes of directions often, to prevent/avoid overheating and damaging the motor/gears. The + and - buttons allows the user to increase or decrease the speed settings. While there are indicators for rotation direction, with a light attending to F or R markings, speed selection is not indicated on the drill. The user will need to select the speed in accordance to the circumstance and visually assess the effects, adjusting the speed accordingly. I do wish that there was a visual cue to provide speed information, though.
The drill contains a battery rated at 800mAh. The user manual states that it takes 2 hours to fully charge a depleted battery, resulting in up to 2 - 2.5 hours of operating time. The product details gives inaccurate information regarding these specifications. (The product details states a 900mAh battery, with up to 4 hours of operating time.). This misinformation could mislead consumers, and dings the rating.
The drill is exceptionally quiet. When I first turned it on, and activated the drill, I thought it wasn't working because I didn't hear anything. But, I noticed the drill bit was spinning. True, this was at the lowest setting, and indeed there is a perceptible buzz when the speed is increased. However, the noise level is very low, and proved impressive.
If the drill included speed level indication, it would be near perfect. I still feel that it's a very credible product, with impressive speed and quiet operation. The metal body gives it a professional and durable demeanor. Attached are photos to show real world images, with a ruler for size reference.
Based on these observations, this quality portable nail drill merits a 4.5 - 4.75 star rating, with a high level recommendation.
